Wit and Wisdom of Millard Fillmore

In honor of President’s Day I decided to try to find a quote which would tie in with my central themes. As I rustled through presidential quotes, I found one that had potential. It was Millard Fillmore who famously said, “It is not strange . . . to mistake change for progress.”

How often do we embrace untested bleeding edge technologies just because we read something about them on the internet? Haven’t we spent enough money on failed technology platforms? We all remember Betamax, 8 tracks and HD-DVD’s.

When it comes to telecommunications technology, we have the same challenges. Will we focus on what’s trending or will we focus on what’s important to our company. Will this technology address business issues? Will it solve a problem? Can it make it easier for my customers to buy things from me? If it doesn’t we should remember the word’s of the novelist Ellen Glasgow who said, “All change is not growth; as all movement is not forward.” Now that sounds rather presidential.
